American Crossroads released a hard-hitting ad Thursday criticizing President Barack Obama for his misleading attacks on GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s history at private equity firm Bain Capital.
The ad begins with a voiceover asking, “What happened to Barack Obama?” and goes on to cite articles by The Washington Post and Factcheck.org to back up its claims that President Obama is running a negative campaign.
“The press, and even Democrats say his attacks on Mitt Romney’s business record are ‘misleading, unfair and untrue,’ ‘blowing smoke,’ ‘too far,’ ‘no evidence,’ ” the voice says.
The video suggests that Obama has instigated these attacks on Romney in order to distract from his failed policies.
“He’s added $4 billion in new debt every single day, unemployment stuck above 8%, family incomes falling,” the ad reminds voters.
“Barack Obama can’t run on that record,” the ad says, mocking Obama’s 2008 Democratic National Convention speech.
“If you don’t have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from. You make a big election about small things,” Obama said in 2008.
The Crossroads ad expertly sums up Republicans’ claims that the Obama campaign is using the Bain attacks to distract voters from the President’s obvious incompetence and his inability to run a clean campaign based on his accomplishment as President because he has none.
