Crash kills off-duty officer from Department of Defense
One person was killed early Sunday in a four-car crash in Landover involving a Prince George’s County corrections van, a taxicab, a Nissan Altima and a Chevy Camero. The incident occurred about 1:50 a.m. near the intersection of Landover Road and Kilmer Street. Few details were available on how the collision happened, but the male driver of the Camero, identified only as an off-duty Department of Defense officer, was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the corrections van, which was transporting two employees and three inmates to an unknown location, was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Body of deliveryman likely found, police say
Fredericksburg police say they’ve found what is likely the body of Yong Hui Zhang, 24, the Chinese food deliveryman abducted Thursday night. Zhang’s remains were discovered in a remote part of Sussex County, not far from his abandoned car. Jermaine Montgomery, 34, of Courtland, and Marcey White, 36, of Virginia Beach, were arrested at a Franklin Wal-Mart on Saturday after trying to use Zhang’s credit card. Zhang left his parents’ China Express Restaurant on Jefferson Davis Highway to make three deliveries, and never returned.
Two dead in D.C. shootings
Two people were killed in D.C. in a pair of shootings that occurred within three hours of each other early Saturday morning.
Marcus Robertson, 29, was shot about 3:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of Clifton Street Northwest. Police found him lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and he died five hours later. Maurice Moore, 24, of the 1700 block of D Street Southeast, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder while armed.
Sixth District officers responded to the 1300 block of Barnaby Terrace Southeast shortly after 6 a.m. where they found 29-year-old Derrick Delonta Lee, of the 2500 block of Elvans Road Southeast, lying on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, and the case is under investigation.
