‘Bigger than any one political party’: Joe Biden thanks Cindy McCain for her endorsement

Joe Biden thanked his longtime family friend Cindy McCain for her presidential endorsement.

“Cindy — I’m deeply honored to have your support and your friendship. This election is bigger than any one political party. It requires all of us to come together as one America to restore the soul of the nation,” Biden tweeted on Tuesday night. “Together, we’ll get it done.”

McCain announced her endorsement earlier in the evening in a series of tweets. She mentioned the disagreements that her husband, John McCain, had with Biden but said that the former vice president has the character to lead the country.

“My husband John lived by a code: country first. We are Republicans, yes, but Americans foremost. There’s only one candidate in this race who stands up for our values as a nation, and that is @JoeBiden,” she wrote.

“Joe and I don’t always agree on the issues, and I know he and John certainly had some passionate arguments, but he is a good and honest man,” she added. “He will lead us with dignity.”

John McCain, the longtime Arizona senator and 2008 Republican presidential nominee, had a feud with President Trump throughout the 2016 election. The two remained bitter toward one another until McCain’s death in 2018, and Trump has continued to criticize the senator since his death.
