Pro-Raphael Warnock TV ad goes all-in on Herschel Walker family dynamics

Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock may be keeping relatively quiet about revelations that his Republican opponent paid for a former girlfriend’s abortion while pushing a strict no-abortion agenda, but the well-financed Senate Majority PAC is going all-in on the drama and taking Herschel Walker to task.

The group launched a 30-second television ad Tuesday that takes aim at Walker’s family dynamics as part of a $36 million media buy to give Warnock the edge over Walker.

While the ad does not directly call out the abortion claim, it does focus on Walker’s son Christian Walker and his disdain and criticism of his father following the revelation. The younger Walker took to social media last week to rip his football hero father. The elder Walker has portrayed himself as a God-fearing man who made some mistakes in the past but has made amends.

His family claims differently.

They have painted a picture of an abusive liar who has campaigned on revisionist history.

“He threatened to kill us and had us move six times in six months running from his violence,” said the ad’s narrator, quoting Christian Walker’s social media remarks.

The ad ends by repeating, “Six moves in six months, running from Herschel Walker’s violence.”

It’s unclear how much of an impact Walker’s latest scandal will have on the race, but prominent Republicans have rushed to Georgia to give the Heisman Trophy winner a hand.

On Tuesday, Florida Sen. Rick Scott will be campaigning alongside Walker in west Georgia.

The tight Georgia Senate race could determine which party controls the U.S. Senate next year. Republicans have said they will do whatever it takes to secure the win.

A super PAC supporting Walker launched its own television ad showing police bodycam footage of Warnock’s wife following an alleged violent altercation. The super PAC, called 34N22, is spending $1.5 million to air the ad across Atlanta as the midterm elections near.

Walker and Warnock will meet Friday night in Savannah for their first and only debate.
