Man charged after jumping onto vehicles on I-66

An Oakton man faces charges after jumping onto four vehicles on Interstate 66 in Prince William County, officials said.

Corbin G. Shannon, 21, was charged with reckless driving, destruction of property under $1,000, pedestrian on the interstate and interfering with passing vehicles on a highway, according to Virginia State Police.

About 6:15 p.m. Monday, a trooper received a report of a crash on westbound 1-66 west of Exit 147. Authorities say Shannon was driving a Honda that was stopped on the right shoulder, and he suddenly swerved and struck a cargo van. The Honda then went off the roadway and into the right, cement wall.

Witnesses said that, in the time it took the trooper to get to the scene, the van’s driver approached the Honda to make sure Shannon was OK. Shannon then threw his door open, ran into westbound traffic and jumped onto four vehicles, police said.

Shannon smashed the windshield of the first vehicle he jumped onto, but the other vehicles sustained no damage and nobody in the four cars was injured, officials said. The trooper found Shannon standing on the left shoulder of westbound I-66, and he was held overnight at a hospital for observation.

Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the incidents, police said.
