Obamacare Question: ‘Is Birth Control Preventative Medicine?’

Published

Obamacare wouldn’t go into effect in any meaningful way until 2014, but it’s already politicizing health care to a perhaps unprecedented degree. The AP reports that American taxpayers may soon be forced to pay for free — and likely more expensive — forms of contraception, as part of Obamacare’s funding of “preventive medicine.” The AP asks: “But is birth control preventive medicine?”

To say that it is, one has to classify pregnancy as an injury or an illness, which the Obama administration seems to be well on its way to doing:  “A panel advising the government will meet this month to begin considering what kind of preventive care for women should be covered at no cost to the patient, as required under President Obama’s overhaul.” Planned Parenthood, a prominent supporter of Democratic campaigns, is pushing this agenda.
