Witness intimidation trial gets under way

The trial of two men accused of trying to kill a witness ? and acquaintance of several years ? in a Baltimore County homicide began Wednesday in city court.

Victor Rickey Shuron Jr., 30, allegedly jumped out of a van Nov. 26, 2006, at the Waverly Shopping Center on the 2800 block of Greenmount Avenue and shot Donnie Hill, a witness in a county homicide case involving Shuron. His co-defendant, Yusuf Winston-Bey, 27, allegedly drove the van.

Attorneys Wednesday debated if an incriminating statement made by Hill against Winston-Bey can be introduced as evidence. Judge Hon. Robert Kershaw ordered assistant state?s attorney Doug Guidorizza to produce the entire statement Thursday for a ruling.

Hill, whose injuries were considered life-threatening, was in his car with his wife at the time of the shooting. While shopping earlier, he “felt very nervous and thought something was going to happen

to him,” according to court documents.

Hill is expected to take the stand Thursday.
