Only Gingrich can defeat President Obama Re: “Romney’s watchwords in Iowa: Divide and conquer,” Jan. 4
President Obama wants to run against Mitt Romney! Obama will have $1 billion and a compliant, dishonest press corps to negatively brand Romney. How much credibility will Romney have after:
1. We see $200 million in TV ads of Romney contradicting himself on major issues?
2. The president deflects criticism of Obamacare because he says he modeled it after Romneycare?
3. Obama positions Romney as the 1 percent his Occupy minions have spent a year demonizing?
4. Obama speaks calmly while Romney continues to come off as a nervous car salesman?
The only guy who can effectively deliver the counterpunch and put Obama on the defensive is Newt Gingrich, who delivered the first Republican majority in the House in 40 years, balanced budgets and welfare reform.
The Republican Establishment, which is bereft of winning strategies and tactics, doesn’t like Newt, and that speaks well for him. Newt may have baggage, but he also has game.

Apologize to Iran? No way!
Re: “Ignore Iranian bluster and keep world shipping lanes open,” Jan. 4
Iran’s arrogance is fully evident. In the wake of the crashed drone, Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi declared of the United States: “Instead of apologizing, they — with a brazen face — ask for the return of the plane.”
In the wake of Iran’s past conduct, including the 1979 hostage crisis, its sponsorship of terrorism, and its nuclear ambitions, Americans need to hold our heads high and tell Tehran to go begging for its “apology.”
For once, let’s remember who we still are as a nation.

More Mormon Democrats in Congress than black Republicans
Re: “The wrong kind of minority for liberals, some conservatives,” Dec. 29
Mona Charen may have written the most disingenuous column of this political season — no small feat! In her Dec. 29 column, she suggests liberals aren’t celebrating the prospect of electing the first Mormon president because Mormons are “the wrong kind of minority.”
She conveniently overlooks the fact that there are currently four times as many Mormon Democrats in Congress as there are black Republicans. And one of them — Harry Reid — is so respected among his Democratic peers that he has been repeatedly elected Senate majority leader. I believe that’s a “first,” Mona. Have you celebrated it?
Perhaps Charen is looking for a rock to hide behind while some of her conservative kin are proclaiming that Mitt Romney is not a “real Christian.” I’d refer her to Matthew 7:3 – the scripture passage about motes and beams — and then I’d refer her to a psychiatrist to deal with her projection issues.
