CNN Democratic commentator Van Jones ripped Hillary Clinton after she called Rep. Tulsi Gabbard “a favorite of the Russians” and inferred she is a “Russian asset.”
Jones, 51, tore into the comments Friday night and said the former first lady is “playing a very dangerous game” with her remarks.
“If you’re concerned about disinformation … that is what just happened, just throw out some information, disinformation, smear somebody,” Jones said.
“She is Hillary Clinton. She’s a legend. She’s going to be in the history books. She’s a former nominee of our party, and she just came out against a sitting U.S. congresswoman, a decorated war veteran, and somebody who’s running for the nomination of our party with just a complete smear and no facts,” he added.
Jones then went on to say that Clinton’s accusation about Gabbard is “playing right into the Russians’ hands.”
“It’s really, really, really disappointing,” he added.
The Hawaii congresswoman also shot back at Clinton over Twitter and taunted her to join the 2020 race.
“The queen of warmongers, embodiment of corruption, and personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party for so long,” Gabbard, 38, said of Clinton.
Clinton later pulled out of Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit, where she was planning to speak along with Gabbard and former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.
