‘This is corruption, plain and simple’: Democrats and media respond to G-7 being held at Trump resort

Democrats and members of the media slammed President Trump after his acting chief of staff announced the G-7 summit would be held at Trump National Doral.

“Hosting a major foreign leader summit at a Trump hotel? Donald Trump continues to abuse his power to line his own pockets,” former Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren called the move “corruption, plain and simple” and California Sen. Kamala Harris said Trump was trying to “line his own pockets.”

Members of the media also tore into the Trump administration for the decision.

“You really can’t overstate how unprecedented and abnormal this is. No American president has ever awarded such a contract to himself,” MSNBC host Joy Reid said.

Fox News commentator Judge Oliver Napolitano said the president’s decision would be a “profound violation of the Emoluments Clause.”

The criticism follows Trump’s acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney announcing Thursday that the G-7 summit would held at the president’s resort.

“They are doing this at cost … it will be dramatically cheaper for us to do it at Doral,” Mulvaney said during a press conference.
