Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell on Thursday appointed Craig M. Burns as acting tax commissioner.
Burns was appointed deputy scretary of Finance in October 2008, and had previously served as the Director of Policy, Planning and Compliance for the Virginia Retirement System.
The announcement comes after the death of Virginia tax chief Janie Bowen on Tuesday. Bowen had just been elected board of trustees president for the Federation of Tax Administrators, a national organization that monitors the effect of federal legislation on state taxes.
