Who: Marilyn Tavenner, Principal Deputy Administrator of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and new nominee to lead CMS What: Santiago Villa-Restrepo pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit health care fraud for his role in a $5.4 million Medicare fraud operation based out of three Michigan health care clinics.
Why It’s an Outrage: Villa-Restrepo bribed people to attend the clinics, which allowed the conspirators to collect Medicare numbers and bill the government for unnecessary tests and treatments.
