Meghan McCain evoked man’s best friend when asking why fellow The View co-host Joy Behar claimed she was “never all-in” for Sen. Bernie Sanders.
The two discussed Sanders’s landslide victory in the Nevada caucuses and whether he had solidified his status as the front-runner on Monday’s show. McCain, the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain, argued that Sanders was the future of the party. The rest of the hosts agreed it was too early to tell.
“For conservatives, this is where I think Democrats are at,” Meghan McCain said. “I think the era of the moderate Democrat is long gone. I think it’s full socialism — all day long. And at least we now know as conservatives that it’s going to be ‘the Squad’ and AOC and Rashida Tlaib and Bernie.”
Behar denied that the Democratic Party’s future is Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Squad, which comprises three other liberal congresswomen. Ocasio-Cortez and two other Squad members have endorsed Sanders. Rep. Ayanna Pressley from Massachusetts broke with the group to back Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
Behar, whom earlier this month Meghan McCain accused of “shilling” for former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, downplayed any support for Sanders and agreed with co-host Whoopi Goldberg that there was still a lot of time in the race for things to change.
“You love him. You named your dog after him,” Megan McCain told Behar when she denied that Sanders was the future of the party.
Behar responded, “First of all, I was never all-in on Bernie. … I named my dog after him — it was a joke, okay? I also said I was aroused by him, which was really a joke. But I think that at that time, I thought Hillary was a shoo-in, so I was having fun with Bernie. Now, I’m not so sure.”
Behar introduced her dog, Bernie Behar, to Sanders during his appearance on the show in the summer of 2017.
