“We’re anticipating within 5 1/2 weeks we can eliminate all of the tiering, so to speak, and make available vaccines to everybody across the spectrum because supply will exponentially increase,” he said at a press conference in the San Francisco Bay area.
Since the distribution of the coronavirus vaccines began, California has utilized a tiered system for distribution, prioritizing those most vulnerable to the virus. Those older than 65, many front-line workers, and those with certain disabilities are able to sign up for the vaccine.
In an address to the nation on Mar. 11, President Biden announced he was directing states to make all adult U.S. residents eligible for the vaccine by May 1.

If each person does their part, small groups will be able to get together for celebrations on the Fourth of July, he said.
“That will make this Independence Day something truly special, where we not only mark our independence as a nation but we begin to mark our independence from this virus,” he said. “But to get there, we can’t let our guard down. This virus is far from over.”
