A U.S. Border Patrol agent was assaulted Monday night in Calexico, Calif., marking the second assault on a border agent in two weeks.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the agent was downtown and watched a man climb over the border fence between the U.S. and Mexico.

When the agent tried to arrest him, the man hit the agent in the eye socket with his elbow.

The agent chased the man and eventually arrested him.

“We will not tolerate assaults on our agents by criminals, and will vigorously pursue assault on a federal officer prosecution against anyone who perpetrates such violence,” said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David Kim.

A week earlier, another border agent saw another illegal immigrant entering the country, and was injured when someone on the other side of the fence threw a small block of concrete at him.
