Metro riders are being advised to steer clear of the Blue and Yellow Lines this weekend or risk major delays as maintenance crews repair a section of track at Reagan National Airport, officials said Thursday.
Blue and Yellow Line trains from both directions will stop at the airport and passengers will be forced to switch trains — after walking around the work zone to the other end of the platform — to continue their trip.
Metro will operate free express shuttle bus service every 10 minutes between the Franconia-Springfield and Pentagon Metrorail stations for those wishing to avoid
the disruptions.
Metro officials said riders can expect significant delays across the system during weekend hours through the fall as crews work to replace dozens of miles of track.
“It’s important that we make the repairs on old and worn tracks before they break,” said Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein. “I know it’s annoying to customers, but it would be more annoying on a Monday morning.”
