Donald Trump Jr. said Saturday night that the life of being a businessman hasn’t been the same since getting a “taste” of the election’s intensity.
He spoke at the Reagan Day Dinner in Dallas, which also featured remarks from prominent Texas Republicans Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Louie Gohmert.
President Trump’s eldest child, who now helps to run the Trump Organization, said he was asked to attend the event by his father, with whom he said he has “basically zero contact with him at this point.”

He said he had thought he was done with politics on Election Day, but, he said, “I had to say yes.”
“What’s really been interesting for me is, I thought I’d be going back to my regular job. I thought I’d be really excited about that,” Trump Jr. told the audience.
“Once you get a little bit of taste of that action, it’s hard to leave,” he continued. “Listen, deals are still exciting, but when you’re sort of the guy out there, every day, 24/7, fighting in this thing. It’s like a great fight — the intensity. I don’t miss the politics. I promise. I want nothing to do with the politics, but I miss the intensity of that.”
Trump Jr. also quipped about how he found it to be “ironic” that his father had dinner at the White House with Cruz and his family last week, after the two former political rivals fought a bitter primary campaign against each other.
Tickets for the event, which took place at a hotel in downtown Dallas, went for $150 each.
