Santorum stumbles into Arizona primary

TEMPE, Ariz. — Tuesday’s Republican presidential primary in Arizona likely arrived a week too late for Rick Santorum.

Just a few days ago, the former Pennsylvania senator was riding a wave of momentum in the Grand Canyon State, igniting speculation that he could score an upset in what was dubbed Mitt Romney country.

But in the wake of last week’s debate in which Santorum was on the defensive about his extensive record in Washington, voters here seemingly have soured on the latest Romney alternative.
