His poll numbers have hit an all-time low, his campaign staff has fled and his fundraising coffers might even be in the red – but former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is still a favorite on Twitter, with more than 1.3 million followers — more than twice the number following Twitter enthusiast Sarah Palin.
“He tweets and manages his Twitter feed himself,” read an article in Politico outlining his prolific presence on the site. “All told, he has tweeted 2,611 times in the 29 months since he joined the site.”
And unlike many politicians — who use their Twitter accounts to link to op-eds or press releases — Newt get’s personal, using the site to answer individual users’ questions and even to joke with fellow tweeters – like his funny back-and-forth with comedian Rainn Wilson, who offered his services as a campaign staffer by tweeting Newt last month.
