Unlike his Democratic opponent, Donald Trump is not cramming his head with “microchips and binders” ahead of the first presidential debate, the Republican nominee’s campaign chief said on Friday.
“There’s a difference between being spontaneous and just, you know, being yourself at the debate stage,” Kellyanne Conway told Fox Business, noting that Trump has no intention of winging his performance in Monday’s debate.
The Trump campaign has been reluctant to release details on what the candidate is doing in terms of debate prep, saying only that he has met with advisers on several occasions and watched clips of Clinton’s primary debates against then-Sen. Barack Obama in 2008. Meanwhile, Clinton has been consulting with psychologists to determine the best ways to get under her opponent’s skin and practicing on two Trump stand-ins.
“I don’t think he’s locked up in a cabin for two weeks like other people have been — or currently are — cramming their heads with microchips and binders, but he’s a brilliant man,” Conway said of Trump.
Conway confirmed that Trump has not been practicing on a Clinton stand-in because the campaign is confident they understand her record and vision for the country. Trump and his allies are also confident that Clinton won’t be as skilled as people expect when she steps onto the debate stage, claiming that she’s “easily flummoxed” and didn’t do well in NBC’s commander in chief forum earlier this month.
“She cannot believe — it’s so beneath her to be running against Donald Trump for president of the United States. She simply can’t get him out of her mind,” Conway said. “Why is every subject and predicate out of her mouth ‘Donald Trump’? So, you know, that’s the person you’re going to see in the debates, someone who very much has her head occupied by him.”
