MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida school is engaging students in discussions about literature using Twitter.
Florida Today reports (http://on.flatoday.com/1qScqtg ) Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy is incorporating smartphone use into classroom lessons.
In a pre-Advanced Placement English class, students are asked to share their thoughts on Twitter in 140 characters or less.
Later, students discuss the comments as they are displayed with a projector on a white board.
Teacher Valerie Williams said she added Twitter to the class to give students exposure to using social media in an academic setting, as is being done at some colleges.
The school’s director of information technology said the practice also teaches students how to use social media responsibly.
