N.Y. attorney general: Trump U is a ‘straight-up fraud’

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said he thinks Trump University is a “straight-up fraud.”

Schneiderman, a Hillary Clinton supporter who filed a multimillion dollar lawsuit against Trump about the university in 2013, made the remarks on MSNBC soon after the Clinton campaign raised Trump University a larger issue on the campaign trail.

“It’s fraud. This is a straight up fraud,” Schneiderman told MSNBC. “It’s like selling people something you say is a Mercedes and it turns out to be a Volkswagen. And even if some people say, ‘Well, I actually kind of like the Volkswagen,’ it’s still fraud because it’s not a Mercedes.”

Schneiderman said Trump University was not a university and Trump “duped” hard-luck citizens struggling amid an economic recession.

Whether Clinton supporters’ attacks about Trump University land any blows against the GOP’s presumptive nominee may hinge on what action the courts choose to take.
