Julius Boros’ record is safe

Fifty-year-old Fred Couples hit a 327-yard drive on No. 8, clearing a fairway bunker that’s supposed to scare 25-year-olds with limber backs. Couples is hitting the ball better than anyone at Augusta, but is putting stroke is getting seriously yippy – shades of Tom Watson on the 72nd hole at Turnberry last summer.

Couples has missed three putts of six feet or less. Hate to type it, but I think he’s done. Yeah, he’s definitely done now that he’s dumped one in the water at No. 12. Not as lucky as 1992, when he hit the hillside and it stayed. This time it rolled back in. Julius Boros’ record is safe as the oldest major champion in history. Boros won the 1968 PGA at 48 years, 4 months.
