The Digital Harbor girls and boys track teams made the most impressive showings of the weekend at the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association state championships last weekend at Morgan State University.

The Rams girls won the 1A meet, while the boys took second behind Smithsburg, leading a pack of three local programs to claim state title crowns.

Meade won the 4A boys meet, while Howard won the 2A boys meet over Poly.

It was the second straight year that Howard was able to bring home the 2A crown.

Smithsburg and Westlake defended their boys championships, as well, while Largo was the only girls champ from 2006 to repeat ? albeit as the 3A champs after winning the 4A a year ago. Largo snapped Western?s two-year reign in the 3A. Largo won its third girls state title in four years.

Matt Centrowitz, a dominant Broadneck senior distance runner, capped his career by setting a state record in the 1,600. The Oregon-bound Centrowitz eclipsed the previous state record with a time of 4:04.09.

Hammond?s boys took fourth, while the girls claimed third in the 2A meet. Hereford?s girls took second in the 2A, while Wilde Lake?s boys took second in the 3A, and Mount Hebron, Western, Aberdeen and Annapolis each made good showings in the girls 3A meet with top-five finishes.
