Oregon to have female majority on its Supreme Court

The Oregon Supreme Court will have a female majority of justices on its bench, following the appointment of Judge Rebecca Duncan by Oregon Gov. Kate Brown.

Duncan serves on the Oregon Court of Appeals and will join the court after Justice David Brewer retires on June 30.

When Oregon’s high court has a majority-female bench later this summer, it will be the first time in the state’s history that this has happened. But several other states around the country have a female majority on their state Supreme Courts, including California, New Mexico, New York, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Tennessee, as the East Oregonian noted.
