‘Finally got to thank the President’: Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher meets Trump at Mar-a-Lago

Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher met with President Trump at his 26-room, 62,500-square-foot resort in Palm Beach, Florida, this weekend.

“Finally got to thank the President and his amazing wife by giving them a little gift from Eddie’s deployment to Mosul,” a post on Gallagher’s shared Instagram account with his wife reads. The location of the post was tagged as Mar-a-Lago.

Pictures showed Gallagher, 40, and his wife, Andrea, sharing laughs with the president and Melania Trump. One photo showed the president with a gift in hand, although the contents of the present remain unclear.

Trump has been a vocal advocate of the Navy SEAL, who was acquitted in the murder trial of a 17-year-old Islamic State terrorist. Former Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer oversaw a push to review Gallagher’s Trident and was fired by Defense Secretary Mark Esper after learning that Spencer attempted to cut a secret deal with Trump regarding Gallagher.

Gallagher praised Trump in the weeks that followed and recently offered to campaign for the president’s reelection bid in 2020.

The conflict between Trump and the Navy was seen as unorthodox to many in the military. Spencer published an opinion piece in the Washington Post that called Trump’s decision to back Gallagher a “shocking and unprecedented intervention.”
