CNN is reporting that Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon expects the state commission in charge of setting Florida’s Republican primary date will stick with the current January 31st date. If the Florida commission does chose that day, the four states empowered by Republican National Committee rules to move up their dates (Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina) will probably exercise their authority under existing state laws to move up their contest dates as well.
If those states choose dates that mirror the 2008 primary schedule, here is the likely 2012 primary schedule:
- Iowa caucuses: Monday, January 2nd
- New Hampshire primary: Tuesday. January 10th
- Nevada caucuses: Saturday, January 21st
- South Carolina primary: Saturday, January 21st
- Florida primary: Tuesday, January 31st
