Perry ‘don’t know much about history’?

Texas Gov. Rick Perry made an embarrassing gaffe while discussing his view of the role of federal government during Tuesday night’s GOP primary debate, scrambling a few historical dates as he talked about what led to the Revolutionary War. “Our Founding Fathers never meant for Washington, D.C. to be the fount of all wisdom. As a matter of fact they were very much afraid if that because they’d just had this experience with this far-away government that had centralized thought process and planning and what have you, and then it was actually the reason that we fought the revolution in the 16th century was to get away from that kind of onerous crown if you will,” he said — perhaps forgetting that colonists didn’t land at Plymouth Rock until the 17th century, and didn’t fight the Revolutionary War until the 18th century. This may not help Perry’s recent slump in the polls, which was also attributed to his poor performance during the debate in Florida last month.
