The Pentagon has confirmed that a senior al Qaeda leader it targeted in an airstrike in Syria Monday was killed in the drone attack.
“We have now determined that Egyptian national Abu al-Faraj al Masri, one of al Qaeda’s most senior leaders, was killed in an American airstrike near Idlib, Syria, on Monday,” Pentagon Spokesman Peter Cook said Thursday.
“His death is a significant disruption to al Qaeda’s senior leadership, and again a blow to their ability to plot external attacks.”
