Michael Cohen is set to testify next month in front of the House Oversight Committee.
But President Trump’s comments about his family have him worried.
ABC News reported that Cohen, Trump’s longtime attorney who pleaded guilty to charges partly related to hush-money payments to two women who had affairs with Trump, is having reservations about testifying in public — though congressional leaders have been sensitive to those concerns.
Sources told the outlet Cohen has said Trump’s claims about his family are meant to intimidate him, and could lead to his family being targeted.
In an unusual move during an interview Saturday with Fox News, Trump said investigators should look into Cohen’s father-in-law, whom Trump could not name. Fima Shusterman reportedly loaned millions to a Chicago cab company owner, who was mentioned in the FBI warrants used to raid Cohen’s home and office.
Trump also mentioned Cohen’s family following Cohen’s plea deal in December. Trump tweeted, “Those charges were just agreed to by him in order to embarrass the president and get a much reduced prison sentence, which he did-including the fact that his family was temporarily let off the hook.”
