The Clintons are showing no signs of stopping their relationship with Hollywood.
At the Clinton Foundation’s 2014 Clinton Global Citizen Awards, Hillary, Bill and Chelsea will honor actor Leonardo DiCaprio for his fervent environmental activism.
The event will take place in Manhattan on September 21, and its mission is to “honor outstanding individuals in civil society, philanthropy, public service, and the private sector who exemplify global citizenship through their vision, leadership, and impact in addressing global challenges,” according to the Clinton Foundation.
“Collaboration and turning ideas into action are core to the ethos of the Clinton Global Initiative and the Clinton Foundation, where partnerships in global health, education and fighting climate change are improving the lives of millions of people around the world,” Chelsea Clinton told The Hollywood Reporter. “Hollywood likewise relies on collaboration to bring creative visions to life and has been an excellent partner to the Foundation across a number of our efforts.”
Hosted by comedian Seth Meyers, the event will feature performances by Jason Mraz, Aloe Blacc, Natalie Merchant, The Roots and Raining Jane. Presenters will include actress Eva Longoria, former secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson.
Rumor has it President Obama will attend the event along with actor Matt Damon, General Motors CEO Mary Barra and Melinda Gates.
In addition to DiCaprio, the Clintons will also honor i2 Institue Founder and CEO Hayat Sindi, co-founders of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers Greg Asbed and Lucas Benitez and President of the Republic of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga.
Randy Jackson, who is producing the music for the event, praised the Clintons for their “astounding” work around the globe.
“I’ve met Bill and Hillary over the years,” gushed Jackson. “What they’ve done is just amazing to me. It’s about trying to change the world and I wanted to be a part of that.”
The event will come only eight days after Bill Clinton joins forces with singer Usher to fundraise for Democratic candidate for Senate in Georgia Michelle Nunn.
Hopefully, Leo will dress up a little more than this at the event:
