Kasich takes Manhattan

The Muppets took Manhattan in a 1984 film. So did Ohio Gov. John Kasich Tuesday night.

While Donald Trump rolled up a huge win in the New York Republican primary, Kasich beat him the 12th congressional district, including most of the East Side of Manhattan, by about 70 votes.

Manhattan is Trump’s home turf, a place where the real estate developer’s name adorns many properties. It’s where Trump gave his victory speech last night.

Kasich managed to keep Trump below 50 percent of the vote in three congressional districts the Republican front-runner carried. That took a few of the 95 delegates up for grabs Tuesday night away from Trump, and he ended with at least 89 delegates to Kasich’s three. Ted Cruz won zero.

Trump easily cleared the 50 percent threshold to win the 14 delegates awarded based on the statewide results, beating 60 Kasich 60 percent to 25 percent. Ted Cruz finished third with less than 15 percent.
