Md. professor joins national oil spill panel

A Maryland professor will join President Obama’s national commission charged with investigating the BP oil spill.

Obama appointed Donald F. Boesch, president of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, to serve on the five-person commission. The panel will provide recommendations on preventing and containing the impact of any future oil spills.

Boesch, a native of Louisiana, has made a career of studying coastal ecosystems around the world. He is a chairman of the Ocean Studies Board of the National Research Council and a member of the National Academies of Science Committee on America’s Climate Choices.
