Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaign has fired a newly hired aide after anti-Semitic and homophobic tweets resurfaced.
Darius Khalil Gordon announced that he had accepted a job with the campaign as deputy director of constituency organizing. By Friday, the campaign told CNN that they had dismissed Gordon over the tweets, which were brought to light by the Washington Free Beacon. In one tweet from 2011, Gordon said, “I got a black mans body, white mans power, [J]ew man money, and an [A]sian man life span..lol,” and he used a derogatory slur for gay people in a number of other tweets.

“He is no longer with the campaign and we wish him the best,” Mike Casca, a campaign spokesman, told CNN.
Sanders, 78, has faced backlash from some over several of his campaign surrogates for their stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Linda Sarsour, a Palestinian activist who has campaigned for Sanders, recently got in hot water after she said Israel “is built on the idea that Jews are supreme to everybody else” during last week’s 12th annual Conference for Palestine in the U.S. She clarified days later, explaining that the comments she made “require context to understand” because she “was specifically referring to the racist argument at the heart of the nation-state law recently passed by the Israeli government.”
Sanders has also been endorsed by Democratic Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, both of whom are Muslim women who have faced accusations of anti-Semitism with regard to statements they’ve made about the conflict.
