Mike Pompeo to testify before Congress next week as questions pile up over Trump-Putin meeting

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will appear before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee next week as Congress seeks answers about President Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to a Republican aide, Pompeo will testify at a public hearing on July 25 to discuss Trump’s recent meetings and discussions with the Russians and North Koreans. Trump met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore last month.

The committee originally requested to talk with Pompeo about negotiations with Pyongyang, but added Russia as a discussion topic following the summit on Monday. Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., chairman of the committee, said Monday that his panel was working to bring Pompeo to Capitol Hill for the hearing.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., had been calling for Pompeo, along with Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and U.S. ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman to testify on the Russia meeting and on what was discussed between the two sides in Helsinki.
