George Soros: Trump is leading the US to nuclear war

The U.S. is on a path to nuclear war with North Korea under the direction of President Trump, said billionaire investor and liberal political activist George Soros at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday.

“The fact of nuclear war is so horrendous that we are trying to ignore it, but it is real,” Soros said. “Indeed the United States is set on a course towards nuclear war by refusing to accept that [North] Korea has become a nuclear power,” he said, according to CNBC.

“This creates a strong incentive for North Korea to develop its nuclear capacity with all possible speed, which in turn may induce the United States to use its nuclear superiority pre-emptively, in effect to start a nuclear war to prevent another nuclear war, obviously a self-contradictory strategy,” he added.

Soros also suggested that he did not think Trump would be re-elected in 2020.

“Clearly, I consider the Trump administration a danger to the world,” he said. “But I regard it as a purely temporary phenomenon that will disappear in 2020 or even sooner.”

Trump is also in Davos attending the event and is expected to deliver a speech on Friday. Bill Clinton was the last sitting president to attend the gathering in 2000.

North Korea ramped up its nuclear weapons and missile programs in 2017, Trump’s first year in office, despite international pressure and sanctions designed to convince Pyongyang to stop.
