The husband of senior White House counselor Kellyanne Conway is expected to be named the head of the Justice Department’s civil division.
According to the Wall Street Journal, George Conway will lead the division, which represents the federal government in the courts in legal battles.
Conway would be at the forefront of defending the Trump administration against lawsuits, such as those against his immigration executive order.
Conway is a partner at the firm Watchtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. He was previously considered for the post of solicitor general, which argues before the Supreme Court. However, Noel Francisco got that job.
A graduate of Yale Law School, Conway previously clerked for Judge Ralph Winter on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals, according to his Watchtell Lipton biography.
A well-known GOP lawyer, he was involved in Paula Jones’ lawsuit against Bill Clinton and has been involved in representing tobacco company Philip Morris. Conway had no public role in President Trump’s campaign.
