MIAMI (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for two missing boaters from Mexico.
Officials say 40-year-old Thomas Rota and 37-year-old Megan Rota left Isla Mujeres, Mexico, on June 9 in a 63-foot white catamaran vessel named Chelone. They were due to arrive in Dry Tortugas on Friday, but never arrived. They were expected to arrive in Key West on Monday.
A family member contacted the Coast Guard in Miami on Tuesday evening. She said she hasn’t heard from the Rotas since June 9.
The Coast Guard sent an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and asked boaters in the area to keep an eye out for the missing boaters.
A C-130 aircraft from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater is searching.
