Consumer confidence reaches post-recession high

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida’s consumer confidence is at its highest mark since the Great Recession.

The monthly University of Florida survey released Tuesday shows consumer confidence was 83 in the month of September. That’s on a scale of 2 to 150 benchmarked to 1966 at a value of 100.

This is a slight uptick from August. It is the highest consumer confidence has been since April 2007.

Chris McCarty, director of the UF center that does the survey, said the rise is a “welcome development” since the rate had been flat.

But he added Florida should have been doing better at this point in the recovery.

One reason for the climb was that more Floridians believe it’s a good time to purchase big ticket items like refrigerators.
