Five people were killed Monday morning in a shooting in Orlando, Fla., that’s believed to be an act of workplace violence, police said.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting at the headquarters of Fiamma, Inc., located in an industrial area of suburban Orlando.
Police said the situation had been “contained,” but reported three men and one woman were found dead at the scene. A fifth victim, a man, was taken to the hospital but was prounced dead upon arrival.
Seven others were found inside the building and survived.
Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings told reporters Monday the suspect was a 45-year-old man who had been fired from Fiamma in April. He carried a handgun and a knife with him, but did not use the knife.
Demings said the suspected shooter didn’t have any ties to a “subversive-type organization” or any type of terror organization.
The sheriff described the suspect as a “disgruntled” employee, and he was found dead inside the company’s headquarters with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“This is a sad day for us once against in Orange County,” Demings said. “Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the victims this morning.”
