Karen Pence, the wife of the vice president, is receiving symbolic support Friday for her return to a Christian elementary school classroom after a withering assault from many in the media, especially CNN, and LGBT advocates.
Regnery Publishing tells Secrets that it is donating 100 copies of Marlon Bundo’s A Day in the Life of the Vice President, illustrated by the second lady and written by her daughter, Charlotte Pence, to Immanuel Christian School in Springfield, Va., where she is teaching art.
It comes after she was assailed for rejoining the Christian school that has an anti-gay policy.
It counters a donation of 100 books titled, “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Presents a Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo,” a parody of the Pence book that makes the family pet Marlon Bundo gay.
It was contributed by the Trevor Project, a pro-LGBT organization.
“It’s a shame the Left feels the need to use any excuse to attack the beliefs of millions of Americans,” said Marji Ross, president and publisher of Regnery.
“We are giving these books not only to show our full support for Mrs. Pence, but as a way to educate young readers about the role of the vice president. Regnery is proud to publish the second lady’s book and to provide students at Immanuel Christian School with the opportunity to learn more about our government,” she added.
Pence had taught at the school for 12 years. Now she is weathering attacks for rejoining the school because of its policy. Online criticism and that from CNN has been fierce. Even Lady Gaga leveled criticism.
The vice president has ripped his wife’s attackers and those assaulting the Christian school model. “We have a rich tradition in America of Christian education, and frankly religious education broadly defined,” he told Eternal Word Television Network, adding, “We’ll let the other critics roll off our back, but this criticism of Christian education in America should stop.”
In addition to donating the books to Pence’s school, Regnery is offering any other school that wants the book a special bulk rate.
Regnery, part of Salem Media Group, plans to release two more Marlon Bundo books this year, and Charlotte and Karen will be donating a portion of the proceeds to charity — Charlotte to A21, a nonprofit organization dedicated to abolishing human trafficking, and Karen to an art therapy program at Riley Hospital for Children and Tracy’s Kids, an art therapy program for children with cancer.
