‘Daily Show’ trolls Jeff Flake over ‘meaningless’ anti-Trump tweets

The Daily Show” didn’t back off retiring Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., Thursday after poking fun at his penchant for sending “meaningless” tweets rebuking President Trump.

The Twitter banter between the Comedy Central program, hosted by Trevor Noah, and the so-called “Never Trump” Republican was sparked after the Twitter account for the late-night TV program posted photos of staff members wearing a blanket featuring images of Flake’s messages while watching the retiring senator say goodbye to his colleagues and constituents.

“No better way to enjoy @JeffFlake’s farewell address than in the warm embrace of his meaningless tweets,” wrote “The Daily Show.”

When Flake asked how he could “get one of those blankets,” the program’s response further mocked the language the one-term senator often uses to criticize Trump, while generally supporting his administration’s agenda.

“We take this request very seriously and will do everything in our power to talk about sending you one,” tweeted “The Daily Show.”

Flake announced in October of last year he would not seek re-election in the 2018 midterm elections. He will be succeeded in the Senate in January by Democratic Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, after she narrowly defeated fellow congresswoman Republican Rep. Martha McSally in November.
