ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York’s budget is expected to include a $9 hourly minimum wage phased in over three years, as well as $700 million in new tax cuts to businesses and middle-class families, according to two state officials.
The current $7.25 an hour minimum wage would rise to $8 in January, $8.75 a year later and $9 in the final year under the tentative deal, according to the officials, who talked on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about the closed-door discussions. The deal is contingent on final agreement on the entire budget, which could happen Tuesday.
