CRIST SEEKS WIN AS DEMOCRAT AFTER LIFETIME IN GOP

Former Gov. Charlie Crist is on the verge of making history by becoming the first person in Florida to be a gubernatorial nominee as a Republican and a Democrat. Crist is the favorite to win Tuesday’s Democratic primary for the chance to face Republican Gov. Rick Scott in November. Former Senate Democratic Leader Nan Rich is hoping for an upset.

6TH PERSON SENTENCED IN $7M LOAN FRAUD SCHEME

A sixth person has been sent to prison for his role in a Florida-based $7 million loan fraud scheme that targeted distressed homeowners across the country. Federal prosecutors said Monday that 35-year-old Robert Bacon of West Newbury, Massachusetts, was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to fraud conspiracy and mail fraud charges. Two others are awaiting sentencing and two more people are awaiting trial in the case.

2 PANTHER KITTENS FOUND DEAD IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA

Wildlife officials say two Florida panther kittens were killed by a vehicle over the weekend in southwest Florida. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reports that the first kitten was found Sunday morning along Immokalee Road in Collier County, while the second was discovered across the street that night. Biologists estimate the kittens to be about four months old. The dead cats mark the 15th and 16th road kills this year

FLORIDA CONDO’S NAME GETS TAINTED BY EXTREMISTS

A planned South Florida condo that shared its name with a group of Islamic extremists is getting a new identity. ISIS Downtown is a major development being built in West Palm Beach. ISIS is also one of the names for the al-Qaida splinter group behind the beheading of the American journalist James Foley. The new building is now being called 3 Thirty Three Downtown.

STANTON HOMER HELPS MARLINS BEAT ANGELS

Giancarlo Stanton hit a 3-run homer on Monday night as the Miami Marlins defeated the Los Angeles Angels 7-1 on Monday night. Stanton and Angels star Mike Trout entered the game leading their respective leagues in extra-base hits and total bases.
