GOP’s Sasse wins open Nebraska Senate seat

GOP candidate Ben Sasse won the open Senate seat in Nebraska, defeating Democrat David Domina, according to the Associated Press.

Sasse, the 42-year-old president of Midland University in Fremont, Neb., was heavily favored to win outgoing Republican Sen. Mike Johanns’ seat.

Domina is a prominent lawyer in Nebraska. He is representing landowners who sued the state over legislative changes to approve a new route for the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline. The Nebraska Supreme Court is reviewing whether changes made to approve the route for the Canada-to-Texas pipeline were constitutional.
