Senate Dems say their budget has no deficit reduction in first year

Democratic staff on the Senate Budget Committee told Sen. Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, that their budget does not reduce the deficit at all in the first year.

“It’s zero in the first year in total,” a Democratic aide told Crapo when asked how much the deficit would go down in 2014. Crapo said that was troubling to him because next years’ budget would supersede this one, making it unlikely that the promised deficit reduction would take place

“As I’ve observed, there are very few if any occasions when Congress has actually moved into the second year of one of the budgets it has adopted,” Crapo said.
