John Edwards — “That’s a complicated question,” his wife said Tuesday.
Remember when the Edwards saga was hilarious and bad? Now it’s just depressing. Elizabeth Edwards today told Oprah that she doesn’t know whether her husband is the father of Reille Hunter’s baby daughter.
“I’ve seen a picture of the baby. I have no idea,” Edwards said. “It doesn’t look like my children but I don’t have any idea.”
And so continues one of the saddest, sorriest and so-familiar political scandals of recent vintage. Elizabeth Edwards is out with a new book, “Resilience,” and her husband, the former senator and presidential candidate, is under investigation by the feds.
Completing the tableau, the National Enquirer reports that Hunter is prepping for her own network interview — apparently preferring Barbara Walters over Diane Sawyer because of the former’s own, admitted extramarital affair. According to Elizabeth Edwards, her husband proved an easy mark:
“What John said is that this woman spotted him in the hotel in which he was staying. He was meeting someone in the restaurant bar area and she verified with someone who he worked with that it was John,” she said.
“John went to dinner at a nearby restaurant and when he walked back to the hotel she was standing in front of the hotel. She said to him, ‘You are so hot.'”
“Don’t worry about Edwards,” said David Letterman. “He’s going back to hosting ‘Wheel of Fortune,’ so he’ll be fine.”
