P.G. detective faces DUI charge

A Prince George’s County police detective is facing DUI and other charges after he rolled an unmarked police cruiser over on Central Avenue, authorities said.

Darin Rush has been suspended from the police department since a week after he rolled the car over in January, officials said. The crash sent Rush to the hospital, and police said they waited for him to be ready to return to duty before suspending him with pay. The case is scheduled for trial April 19.

Rush was off duty during the incident, police said, and as a result the public was not immediately made aware of the situation. Police are conducting an internal affairs investigation that’s separate from the criminal investigation.

The police car was badly damaged in the crash. No one, other than Rush, was injured.
