Planned Parenthood ad uses Kaine, Pence abortion debate

Planned Parenthood has crafted a new campaign ad around Tim Kaine and Mike Pence’s extensive discussion about abortion rights during the vice presidential debate Tuesday night.

The 38-second ad, released Thursday, features mostly unedited audio from the debate, where Kaine defended his support for legal abortion and blasted Republican nominee Donald Trump for agreeing earlier this year that women who choose to get an abortion should be punished.

“Let’s talk about abortion,” Kaine is heard saying. “We support Roe v. Wade, we support the constitutional right of American women to consult their own conscience … but then make their own decision about pregnancy.”

“Why doesn’t Donald Trump trust women to make this choice for themselves?” he says later in the ad.

The ad flashes pink sentences across the screen as the audio plays. “We couldn’t have said this better ourselves,” it says.

The ad doesn’t include any audio from Pence, who had responded to Kaine during the debate by arguing that all life should be protected, including the lives of unborn children, and that mothers who feel they can’t care for their children should consider adoption instead of abortion.

Planned Parenthood is spending a hefty $30 million to sway the 2016 election, double its spending four years ago.
