Howard County police have arrested an 18-year-old on charges of stealing a prosecutor?s car from the courthouse parking lot.
Police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn said Caleb Wright, of the 3800 block of Gateway Terrace in Burtonsville, was at a juvenile hearing in Howard County Circuit Court Thursday when he saw County Assistant State?s Attorney Laurie Haas put her keys down on a table.
Wright took Haas? keys and, using her electronic car door opener, found her car in the parking lot of the courthouse, police said.
“The young man who was in court picked up her car keys, went to the parking lot and drove off with her car,” Llewellyn said.
Haas reported the theft to the police department, which made contact with Wright?s family.
Wright returned the car last Thursday night, Llewellyn said.
Police arrested Wright on Tuesday night after obtaining a warrant.
